  • Shooting Action: How to Use the Camera to Tell Story

What’s the point of action? Diverting, visual, macho, thrilling, yes. But so what? In filmmaking and story terms, can it do more than just throw “ouch" punches?

When I shot Daredevil, a lady in NYC told me she just fast forwards the action to get back to the drama. I wanted to force her to shadow me throughout the gruelling process of prepping, rehearsing & shooting action!

So, how do you make action important? How can you shoot action so it isn’t just a load of cuts? How can the camera help tell the story?
