Soul Cakes - 1st prize in Gothic Horror Writing Competition, Red Rope Theatre. 'We loved the story and picture you painted and it left an impression on us all'.
'That look on your face as you push me away!
"Why aren’t you dead?" you cry. "Why aren’t you dead?"
"... I am", I say.'
....
'In my head, there’s something... like a short film that keeps repeating. I’m under a blanket, listening, knowing for sure that I’m about to be swallowed up. There’s a sound - like a hurricane - blowing through the trees at the edge of the field. Or like an ocean swell, a huge wall of water rising up over the branches, blocking out the stars and the moon. I curl up into myself, and wish I was somewhere else.
And then, a moment later - I am! Pulled up by my hair, dragged across a dank room full of shivering children - thrown into a world of smoke and metal and oil and noise.'
