Animal Farm Ballet Production (Ballet, 2021)

Having completed my undergraduate degree in BA Hons Costume Interpretation with Design, I have been equipped with all of the necessary skills for Costume Design, which I have developed to a very high standard. This was highlighted and recognised by my Senior Lecturers when I was recently awarded the BA Hons Costume Interpretation with Design STUDENT OF THE YEAR Award 2021 for my hard work and determination throughout my three years of study. 

I have excellent research skills, which is integral to the Costume Design process; I have studied several time periods in intense detail, such as the fashions of the Elizabethan royal court, 1930s tailoring and Communist Russian Fashions and Textiles, as well as modern inspirations, such as Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty; all of these areas were deeply researched for my latest project, a ballet adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm. This base work allows for my designs to be even more suited to both setting and character, creating more successful outcomes.

In my designs, an important focus for me as a designer is the integrality of character and symbolism towards each key role in the production. I achieve subtle hints to characters through the embellishment on their costumes, using different historical influences that most suit their character, using shape and silhouette to suggest certain traits and colour theory. I think these details really help elevate the production for the audience, creating more of a immersive experience.

I have very highly developed design illustration skills, focusing mostly on physical mediums, but sometimes dabbling in digital design were required. I also am a very accomplished Costume Maker, having worked on several theatre productions, which I think makes me a stronger designer as I have an understanding of how costumes are constructed.
