Inviting Neurodivergent artists to join us on a research and development day for The Rat at Creative Workspace on Friday 24th January 2020.
The Rat is a piece of theatre in the early stages of its development seeking to bring visibility to the invisible cognitive, behavioural and emotional challenges faced by adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions.
Adopting an embodied, playful and curious approach, we will be using this day to explore the different ways the language of theatre can be employed to illustrate and demystify executive functioning differences. We’ll also workshop some key ideas from The Rat to see what (if anything!) resonates.
We will be using improvisation, sound and physical theatre exercises to open a creative dialogue up with our internal adversaries, allowing us to observe and engage with them from a different perspective; offering new opportunities for self-discovery, self-acceptance and positive self-actualisation.
The day will run from 10:30 – 16:00 and we will take an hour for lunch.
Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement and bring plenty of food and water to keep you sustained throughout the day. There is also an on-site community café at the venue serving vegetarian and vegan lunches, cakes, tea and coffee should you need further reinforcements.
Any other questions, don’t be afraid to shoot me a message and ask!
