The Painter is about an insecure artist that murders his models. He is subsequently haunted by his own insecurities which are manifested in the art he produces.
Carlos is an artist who is passionately insecure about his work. So much so that he manifests his insecurities through visions of his models scrutinising his own work. His insecurities manifest further into the murder of his models leading him to practise the same painting over and over before he achieves his vision. The themes of the character centre around the idea of an artist feeling like an imposter and never truly accepting his talents or work.
