More on projectHide project details

Follow adventure mermaid and children's author Lindsey Cole as she mermaids the length of the Bristol Avon to investigate how river pollution affects wildlife like otters. The health of our rivers has been in decline for the last ten years. Only 14% of rivers in England are in good ecological health. Otters are at the top of the food chain and are a good indicator of a river's health. Pollution kills off insects, which kills fish, and then there's no fish for the otters.

The Mermaid, the Otter and the Big Poo was made to take into schools to inspire young people to look after their local river. Look out for the children's book about it next summer.

For more information or if you'd like a mermaid to visit your school and teach you how to look after your local river and citizen science, please visit lindseycole.co.uk
