11 year old Kieran is navigating a new world with new people, trying to save his brother, and eventually deciding his future.
Connor is Kieran's older brother. He was just turning fourteen when his parents died. Instead of taking up the apprenticeship as a blacksmith he planned, he stayed at home to look after his little brother. Sometimes he gets angry about that. They don’t have much to live on. He gets angry about that too, especially when he sees wealthier people making a display of their riches, and not helping those in need. He is fiercely protective of Kieran.
