CASTING EVENING at Screenology, taking place Wednesday the 23rd of February. At this event we will be auditioning actors for roles in our 3RD YEAR FINAL MAJOR PROJECTS as well as a feature film entitled I’M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY written by Bristol based writer Oliver Gamblin.

I’M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY follows a number of disparate characters who all feel disempowered in their lives so they choose to spend more and more time existing online where they believe they may have more control over their own narratives. Inspired by true stories which took place in Bristol, the film has the backdrop of the Kill the Bill riots and the sense that justice and hope is just out of reach.

Oliver Gamblin (writer) Oliver is a script writer who has written plays and short films and is now working on a feature film. In 2015, he was chosen to be one of Bristol Old Vic’s Open Session writers and he has had his work performed at Bristol Old Vic, Bath Theatre Royal, The Arcola, Plymouth Theatre Royal and the Pleasance Theatre. His play ‘The Palace’ (a play inspired by the grooming scandals of Rotherham, Rochdale and other areas) was longlisted for the Papatango prize. He has been shortlisted for the BBC scriptroom four times and his play ‘Eight Plays About Sex’ was in the top three for the Tobacco Factory Theatre’s playwriting prize ‘Script Space.’ Oliver’s work is a mix of social realism and absurdism. His writing is always character driven and he believes that the more complex a character is, the more interesting the story will be. As a film writer, he is particularly inspired by the work of Roy Andersson, Ken Loach, Joanna Hogg and Charlie Kaufman.

Jon Ferguson (director) Jon is a writer, director and film & theatre maker. He is the founder and Artistic Director of WLDRNSS, based in Minneapolis, MN. Jon’s theatrical work has been profiled in American Theater Magazine, published by Samuel French and received critical recognition and numerous awards. His recent film THE CARTOGRAPHER shot in Snowdonia, Wales will be released in the summer of 2022. He is currently based in Bristol, UK - working as a creative director at Screenology Film School.

For I’M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY we are looking to cast six central characters as well as a few featured supporting characters. We welcome all ages and experience levels to audition. Central roles will be paid a stipend. We’re currently aiming to shoot in April/May 2022 - we are working to solidify the specific dates. Attached are character bios and script excerpts from I’M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY.

3RD YEAR FINAL MAJOR PROJECTS are produced and created by our excellent 3rd year students and act as a showcase of their filmmaking / story-telling skills. At the casting evening you will have the opportunity to read for these projects. This part of the casting evening will be run by our third year students. Attached is a separate document with more information regarding these projects.

The open casting will be held at Screenology, St. Vincent's Works, Silverthorne lane, BS2 0QD. Wednesday 23rd from 5 - 8 PM (This is a flexible time and you will not need to attend in its entirety, more information will follow after completion of type-form)

We hope to see you there!
