“Respite” is a film that follows Rose, an elderly lady, and her experience of isolation in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Frustrated with solitude, her body takes over one morning as she cannot help but explode into a passionate dance sequence. Rose’s brief moment of release provides a temporary relief, only to return her to the monotonous reality of life in lockdown.

Frustrated with solitude, her body takes over one morning as she cannot help but explode into a passionate dance sequence. Rose’s brief moment of release provides a temporary respite, only to return her to the monotonous reality of life in lockdown.

Rose is a retired English teacher between the age of 60 and 70. She lives alone in Bristol, with no family in the city. Rose wants the joy of normal life back, filled with friends and family, as much as she might not show it, she is lonely. Having lived alone for years Rose has a built-up resilience but the severity of the pandemic is weighing on her.
