A world-weary taxi driver always has a story to tell about his passengers. But he soon finds the story isn't over just because they've got out of the cab.

Lying low in a roadside café, yet eager to get something off his chest, the taxi driver imparts an epic encounter with a young woman and her two small children as they travel cross country to buy a horse. As the odyssey unfolds and the woman's plight becomes known, the taxi driver must decide whether to get the job done or act like a decent human being. But, as he battles to tell his tale against the backdrop of an ever-ringing phone, it is apparent he has become far more involved in the lives of his passengers than he ever intended.

An early version of the play was featured as part of Documental Theatre's 2020 #WhereTo? Project, and the filmed excerpt was performed to promote interest in the show.

I am looking for a producer to work with on getting my solo stage play, Rank, funded, on tour and into theatres. The play is fully scripted, and has been developed in collaboration with a director. It has gone through several drafts and, following research and development work at Greenwich Theatre at the end of last year (including initial design concepts), is rehearsal-ready. My role in the project is primarily that of writer-performer. I am an experienced actor, having previously worked on a wide variety of theatrical productions; from large casts to one-man shows, regional tours to the West End. That said, I have little experience of getting a show from the script to the stage, and so I feel it is important to secure a producer to take Rank into the production phase. I would especially value a producers’ opinion on the potential reach of the play.

I am based in Frome, Somerset, and as a writer have a particular interest in reflecting working class narratives and voices. I have written two plays to date (including this one), which explore differences in cosmopolitan and provincial identities and attitudes, and the broader impact of gentrification on working class lives. Rank is very much a character driven piece in this regard, and is based on my own experiences working as a taxi driver.

An early version of the play was featured as part of Documental Theatre's 2020 #WhereTo? Project, and I performed an excerpt to camera to promote interest in the show; you can view this video on my profile. A copy of the script is also available on request, and I would love to hear from anyone interested in helping bring Rank to the stage.
