Raising Helliker (Stage, 2023)
Inspired by the life of Trowbridge's Thomas Helliker, a Wiltshire College Performing Arts dept musical, set in the 1800s- focused on early trade union movements
I designed and made costumes inspired by Regency silhouettes but with a simplified appearance. Calico waistcoats and bodices over a plain black base gave the impression of a period costume with minimal layers and detailing. Class divide was demonstrated by use of floral prints for the lower classes who were more 'connected to nature' in the themes of the play, as they lost their jobs to Industrial Revolution.
