Job Introduction

BBC England, one of the four BBC Nations, is re-inventing its TV offer for the audience. As part of that creative refresh we will launch a brand-new current affairs series on BBC One and we are recruiting a dynamic, creative and diverse team to help us.

This new series will transmit in a BBC One prime-time slot and will deliver a fresh approach to peak-time current affairs. It will reflect the lives of our audience from Cumbria to Cornwall, Manchester to Margate. It will tell the big stories that matter, in an accessible, actuality rich, immersive way.

The team will be based in six regional hubs across England and will be run by an executive team at the series headquarters in Birmingham.

The ambition is for a new series with high production values, popular appeal, warmth, accessibility and investigative journalism - with a clear, contemporary visual style. We will tell compelling stories with a deep understanding of the issues our audience is talking about.

We are seeking individuals with the skills to help us deliver great content, maximise the impact of that content and a commitment to understanding and reflecting the stories and experiences of our diverse audience in England. This is an opportunity to launch a bold and ground-breaking new programme, delivering 120 films a year for BBC One from six locations across England. The series is reputationally critical to BBC One and BBC England and we are recruiting a team to deliver on that challenge.

You will identify stories and generate strong journalistic ideas by undertaking detailed research and fact checking. You will be required to film and edit material.

You will ensure our content is of a first-class standard – in keeping with audience needs and expectations. You will also ensure we comply with the BBC’s editorial and legal standards, and that BBC Health and Safety policies are observed.
