Episode: Siobhan Clough, Classical Violin

In this film we meet freelance classical violinist Siobhan Clough. Siobhan is a freelance classical violinist. She performs in lots of different settings from classical orchestral concerts, educational workshops, quartet performances in London Tea Rooms to festivals. She began learning the violin in a little primary school in South Wales and with encouragement and support from her family, went on to study at Chethams School of Music and then to the Royal Academy of Music for her degree. She is now enjoying a varied and exciting career including playing regularly with disabled-led ensemble BSO Resound, at events like the BBC Relaxed Proms and an inclusive project called The Lost Thing at The Royal Opera House. She has even performed with Stormzy at Wireless Festival!

Episode: Mike Moast, Acoustic Pop

Mike is a singer/songwriter and a music facilitator. He first discovered the guitar on his 5th birthday, and never looked back! His musical journey since then has involved playing guitar, singing and writing his own music, as well as running workshops for young people, including children in care and disable young people. His love of acoustic music has stayed strong throughout. Mike studied music at the University of West England and now works as a Project Manager for young people’s music programmes at Knowle West Media Centre, as well as being a tutor for Bristol Music Trust. He performs at venues across Bristol and plans to release his first album very soon!

Episode: Kayla Painter, Experimental Eletronica

In this film we meet Experimental Electronica artist, Kayla Painter. Kayla is a producer who creates electronic music. She uses instruments, found sounds and synths to write her own experimental compositions. Kayla writes and performs her own original music at gigs and festivals. Sometimes she performs with a visual artist, creating a big audio-visual show.

Her career highlights so far have been closing Glastonbury Festival on the Glade Stage and playing at an IMAX theatre. Her music has also been used in adverts and on TV, including for Disney.

Growing up, Kayla learnt to play the recorder, saxophone and double bass, before studying Creative Sound and Music at university and finding her love for electronic music. As well as writing and performing, she now teaches at universities, makes remixes for other musicians, and is always interested in learning more and improving her skills!

Episode: Mircea Mutulescu, Jazz Singer

In this film we meet jazz singer Mircea Mutulescu. Mircea is an oboist, singer and music teacher, originally from Romania. He started singing as a child, and he then began to play the oboe, which he continued to study for 12 years. Alongside his classical oboe playing, he also learned and developed a career in jazz singing, which he accompanies on the piano. During his musical journey he has toured many European countries, sung at the Royal Albert Hall with Bristol Youth Choir, appeared on the Voice TV show with his band accompanying the participants, and released some jazz albums. He performed for many years, including on the radio, with a Romanian vocal jazz acapella group called Jazzapella, who cover jazz and popular songs using only voices. Highlights include Bohemian Rhapsody and the Flintstones! He has performed concertos as an oboe soloist, including locally with Nailsea Concert Orchestra. Mircea is also a tutor for Bristol Music Trust.
