In the intense chaos of a community league 5-a-side football game, coach Nick is hit on the head and knocked out. When he wakes up, he inexplicably believes he’s the famous icon of the French New Wave cinema movement, Jean-Luc Godard. At the height of the game, this unusual replacement must guide the team to victory using some avant-garde methods.
Nick is a working-class bloke who coaches a below-average local 5-a-side football club. He’s a good guy, but he feels a lack of control over his own life, and his team have become the only thing he cares about. He has a short temper and is the antithesis to the persona that takes over after the incident – Nick-Godard is an unfailingly cool French-Swiss rulebreaker with an intimate knowledge of Marx and no idea how football works.
