“According to a Drinkaware study in 2014, nearly two thirds (63 per cent) of women and a quarter of men (26 per cent) aged 18–24 who regularly drink in clubs, bars or pubs said that that they had experienced sexual harassment on a night out. Research shows that sexual harassment is regarded as more socially acceptable when it takes place in a bar than in the street or in public generally, with one participant describing it as “part of the unwritten rules of a bar”.
For the casting we are seeking people from Eastern European backgrounds based in Bristol, with native Eastern European accents.
ROLES:
Nina 18-20 is a young Polish girl in search of a better future. She has settled in the city of Bristol, studying at university and has taken a job bartending. Nina’s country is marred with the traumatic realities of women surviving the patriarchy, largely concealed from public view. Nina’s always imagined the Westernised world would offer her an escape from the archaic perceptions of women held back home. So, when Nina’s flirtatious relationship with manager Alex intensifies, you’d think their similar backgrounds would afford them common ground.
Nina is a university student, who witnessed her family conform to the same destructive patriarchy in which many families crumble. A self-sufficient woman who is supporting herself and standing on her own two feet. Nina has come the U.K to build her life, and reassure her family back home, that independence isn’t just an unobtainable dream.
Nina’s Tale -Based on a true story of writer/director Anna Meszaros. Nina’s Tale is about the violations of trust, and the unacceptable nature of sweeping acts of sexual assault under the carpet.
No nudity or implied nudity will be required for the role. Scenes of implied sexual assault.
We follow Nina on her night out with Emily, and when Alex makes his appearance, things take an unexpected turn. As two social outcasts come together, the course of the evening facilitates questionable and unforeseen activities. With the cameras, off for this lock-in, pursuits aren’t always legal.
FILMING
We aim to commence October 28th - November 2nd in Bristol. The bulk of the filming will take place on Queens road. These will be predominantly interior shots, save for one exterior evening shoot.
