A merry tale of the milli-seconds twixt life & death. When you can do anything, be anyone. Like a Sindy™ doll who meets a murderous goddess & saves the world.
Bristol actress Lucinda Holloway stars in Bath playwright Gill Kirk’s brand new one-woman show, dealing with the ultimate mid-life crisis. The play is a terrifically funny tour-de-force, as Lucinda Holloway holds the stage, grips our attention and takes us through the story of what may be her last seconds on earth – accompanied by Melvyn Bragg, an Indian goddess, a talking tiger and an army of the dead. It’s surreal, probing and laugh-out-loud hilarious, as the audience are given a glimpse into the racing mind of someone trying to puzzle out the ultimate question – what is life for? Before it’s too late! So if you haven’t yet cured cancer, climbed Everest, invented eternal ice-cream or bought that duck-filled farmyard for your ten children you never tell off, this play is for you! It’s the merry tale of the kind of wild adventure and insane insight found only in the milli-silli-seconds between life and death. When you can do anything and be anyone. Like a children’s doll who encounters a murderous goddess and changes the world. Because it’s never too late – right? You’ll laugh a lot, cry a bit, maybe even wee a bit: but Gill Kirk’s new show is a must-see gem for anyone staring (early!) middle-age in the hairy eyebrow. Because who knows what’s round the corner? Gill Kirk is a theatre writer who also writes for film and TV. Selected for the 2014 Screen Yorkshire’s Triangle feature film talent development scheme and Channel 4’s 4Screenwriting scheme, Gill also runs The Rondo’s Scriptwriting Group for aspiring playwrights. Gill lives in Bath, writes here and also on trains and – worryingly for her – finds that 6am on a train is a very productive time. The Rondo is Bath’s home of new writing, and aims to support up-and-coming playwrights, theatre companies and performers. The show is directedby the Rondo’s Artistic Director, Ian McGlynn. Oh yes – because of its unflinching view of the funny side of sex, Glitter Knickers is only for big girls and boys.
