I’m an artist and theatre maker based in Bristol, forming a small, experimental theatre troupe for a new participatory project.
The idea is simple and slightly unusual:
I will be knocking on doors in neighbourhoods across Bristol, asking people if they like to write. If they do, we invite them to share a short piece of writing. That writing is then turned into a very short play, which we later return to perform — in their living room, just for them.
I’m looking for actors who are interested in:
intimate, gentle, slightly awkward performance
listening carefully and working with real people
collaboration over polish
making work that doesn’t feel like “theatre as usual”
There is no fixed script and no hierarchy, just a desire to work slowly, collaboratively, with care, curiosity, and a sense of play. I’m imagining this as a fun, collective way to make meaningful, strange, and tender work in different communities.
This project is unpaid. I will be making costumes and props from my own resources, and I can arrange travel costs, but beyond that there is no budget. I’m looking for people who would genuinely enjoy trying something new, experimental, and a bit weird, and who are excited by the process itself.
If this sparks something for you, I’d really love to talk and see if it feels right.
