Looking for an enthusiastic actor to play David, one of the main roles in our short horror/dark comedy, Live Bait.

'Live Bait follows 39-year-old FREYA; a charming bug collector and fishing shop owner with a severe God Complex, who copes with her oppressive marriage by imaging her patriarchal husband, DAVID, dying horrifically in manner similar to her bugs. After David asks her to give up her business and her hobby so that he can finally have a child, Freya decides to manipulate her best-friend and co-worker, KIM, against him. A series of subtle abuse implications from Freya steadily convinces Kim that David is dangerous, and in an act of panic trying to protect her friend, Kim lethally stabs David, fulfilling Freya’s violent fantasies.'

David is a 40-year-old man who lives in a small Welsh fishing town with his wife, Freya. David is a highly educated and highly condescending person who thinks very highly of himself. He is extremely patriarchal in nature, often resulting in sexist attitudes.

He is proud the ‘breadwinner’ of the household and believes his hard work in his career entitles him to his desires. He grows mad at his wife when this does not come to fruition, taking out his frustrations verbally and emotionally; almost tantrum like, making him very spoilt in nature.

Despite this, David does truly care about Freya and loves her very much, but is extremely unaware of her feelings, lacking any real capacity for empathy, disregarding her desires.

Happy with the married life he feels he has constructed, David does have one last thing he yearns for, desperately wanting a child to ‘complete’ his idyllic concept of a family. He resents Freya’s career ambition, feeling like that is what stands between him and what he has ‘earned’.

The film is being made through the University of Gloucestershire by a diligent and hard-working team, determined to bring this ambitious idea to life. The project is expenses only, travel and food costs covered, with accommodation provided if needed.

The shoot dates would be a series of small shoots in and around Cheltenham between November 12th-15th.
