Martijn de Man (1969) started his professional music career as a keyboard player for Dutch rock band Urban Heroes. With them, he recorded the album ‘Innerdream’ for Sony Records in 1994 and in the same year he performed with them at Parkpop, Europe's biggest free concert festival.

Although Martijn enjoyed performing live, he developed a greater interest in music composition and sound design. In 1995, he became a full-time composer. He took a preparatory course for the Conservatory in Hilversum and took private lessons with Jacob ter Veldhuis. Since then, he has been able to refine his craft by performing very diverse projects, ranging from documentaries, short films, animations to immersive museum experiences. He is also the in-house composer/sound designer at MCW Creative Agency in Rotterdam.

Among others, he created the music for the documentaries ‘Old Trees’ and ‘We see us’ for NPO, ‘ Beast Mode On’ for Amazon UK and soundscapes for ‘Ferrari: Under the Skin’, van Gogh Museum, ‘Dunhuang Caves’ and the Doha Horticultural Expo 2023.

In 2024, Martijn completed the music for the War Child documentary ‘War is Hereditary’, for ‘Hong Kong Science Museum Material Tales’ and provided additional music for the short film ‘Spark Wheel’. In late 2024, he finalised the soundtracks for ‘Lisboa Stories’, an immersive experience in surround sound in Macau, which he mixed on location. Meanwhile in early 2025, he started working on the soundtrack for a new chapter in the documentary series ‘War is Hereditary’ Late 2025 he returned to Macau again, this time to build an immersive soundscape on site for the exhibit ‘Picasso Beauty & Drama.

 

Martijn's style is best described as a mix of traditional orchestration with modern electronic elements, strong melodies but also with room for abstract experimentation.Always in the service of the story, enhancing the experience, but never overpowering.These are Martijn's basic principles appreciated by his clients worldwide.
