"Kathal Larkin is a sound designer who thinks he’s a poet."

He cut his teeth in the electronic music scene, focusing on other-worldly sounds and ethereal, emotional atmospherics. He began focusing on sound for the screen in 2020 when he realised the broader range of human feelings and the possibilities for abstract representation afforded him in this world.

Kathal worked on over 15 short and feature-length films in the past three years, specialising in on-location recording, sound design, re-recording and Atmos mixing, promising to guide the sound of your project from inception to actualisation. Up for every job, managing projects with the skill and experience few others can offer.

With this extensive toolset already within his repertoire, he has begun to explore and develop the skills required for film and TV post-production, particularly dialogue editing, spatial audio mixing, and creating subtle atmospheres that inform and complement the emotional themes of a scene. Utilising subsonic and ultrasonic tones, Kathal is adept at conveying and inducing a feeling in a listener without them necessarily being conscious of the experience.

His variety of well-honed skills put him in a position where he is as comfortable working as a sound designer, dialogue editor or mixing engineer. Regardless of the context, he is in his element while behind any industry-standard hardware or underground boutique DAW, taking an EQ, compressor or suite of effects to their logical conclusion.
